This November, my husband and I drove from San Diego, California to Tennessee in 5 days. That meant there wasn’t much time to stop and take leisurely photos. So, this one was taken from the window of a fast-moving car.
Where do you focus?
You may notice that the background is clear, and the foreground is fuzzy. That’s because while the closest scenery is whipping past, the distant mountains appear to be still. I love how the folds of the mountains catch the light of the setting sun.
For your contemplation
If you take some time to contemplate the phenomenon of background and foreground as you gaze on this scene, what are some thoughts that come to mind?
Maybe – while we are in a murky time right now, the way forward shines through more clearly.
Or – if we can just get through this confusion, the way will become clearer in time.
Or – we can choose to focus on the beauty in the distance instead of the troubles of the present.

Scripture Verses to Ponder
Isaiah 30:19-21
New International Version
19 People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. 20 Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 55:8-9
New International Version
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
