Contemplate with Music – feel the peace

posted in: Desert, Peace, Photography | 0

This scene was captured on a day of retreat in the desert, where God was made known to me in a quietly powerful way.

Different conditions call for different actions

This post is quite a departure from my usual practice of contemplating a photo in silence. I hope you will allow the music to soothe your anxious thoughts and give you something to hold on to.

When I started this blog, the idea was to share images of God’s creation to help us meditate on God’s goodness and generosity in making such a beautiful world for us to live in, and to contemplate the intricacies of that gift. ……We could do that a year ago, because the world was somewhat stable – at least in our own corner. …. But things are different now. The wolf is at the door. How shall we respond? How can we sing the songs of Zion in a strange land?

Invitation

I invite you to take 2 1/2 minutes to allow yourself time to listen and pray along with this video. Sing with me and Mark as you rest in God’s presence. Then you might try singing it on your own or re-playing the video to extend the time.

Background of the Music

“Let This Mind Be in You” comes from Philippians 2:5 in the King James version. Other versions refer to “mind” as attitude, or mindset. Whatever you call it, Jesus took on the attitude of a servant.

5 – 8: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

What is Taizé music?

This song is written in the style of Taizé chants. Using just a few words, they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times, this reality gradually penetrates the whole being. Meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to God. This meditative music form originated in the Taizé Community in France.

To use this song in worship, you might sing it much longer than the short video, allowing the words to sink deeply into your soul. Let the sound of your own voice ringing in the air bring you comfort and peace.

Do you have a favorite Taizé song? Please tell us in the comments. Please share other ways you are finding peace in your current situation.
